Essential reading for novice archers

Archery Reference GuideJust a quick one today, I wanted to point out an excellent resource for those getting familiar with the sport. We use (and maybe take for granted) a lot of terms in archery which for a beginner can be daunting, if not confusing. (Try explaining to a beginner the difference between brace height, draw length, string length, and bow poundage).

If you’re getting started and want to bolster your technical knowledge of archery much faster than I could explain it, I recommend downloading and reading the excellent Archer’s reference. The guide was written for recurve archers, but much of the content is still relevant whatever bow type you shoot.

Download the Archer’s reference guide (PDF).

Happy shooting!

  1. ole hunter says:

archery is a life style more than it is a sport…
I learned more about shooting a bow and hitting my targets from free style shooters…
archery coachs, some not all, want their student to shoot exactly like thay do regardless of the result…

  2. That is true Ole. Although from my own (limited) coaching experience, do we not teach what works best for us?

I suspect that the best coaches have experience with many different styles of shooting.

They’re not easy to find, but if you find a coach who has deep experience of freestyle shooting, olympic recurve, gap shooting, field archery etc etc, then pay attention to what they have to say!
